What goes on when girls got together for a slumber party has always been a mystery to us guys...even if you told us! (We know you lied!) So we continue to speculate and imagine as we always have. I can only go by what I've been told or remember from the few we've managed to sneak into.
So get the girls together and do whatever it is you did back in the day!
- Who is/was the hottest guy?
- Do/did you keep a crush book? Do you still have any of those old crushes?
- Show up in your PJ's with a sleeping bag with a bunch of tunes and magazines.
- Movie Marathon! Get some popcorn and throw in some classics! Horror movies are a given, but you can always check out anything from John Hughes or some random chick flick.
- Braiding, crimping, 80's makeup...whatever sounds good to you!
- Call up some guys and hang up while giggling, dance around in your underwear, plan world domination, try on a bunch of clothes, whatever else you can dream up! Keep it 80's, Ladies!
Boys Night Out!
Drink cheap beer, play quarters, break out a deck of cards, eat a bunch of pizza, laugh at whoever pukes first, roam the strip clubs and bars, lie about who you've had sex with (and who you wanted to have sex with back in the day), etc. You don't need many ideas from me since most of us never stopped doing any of this stuff since we were teens.
The Metal Meltdown!
Bust out the denim, leather, and spikes! Dig out those old tapes of Headbanger's Ball (or find them online), put some of the classics on the stereo, get a couple cases of that crappy beer we used to drink or some cheap booze, order some pizza, and thrash around!
Old School Blowout!
Kegs and booze (Mad Dog, Boone's, and Purple Passion are a must), random snacks and food, and loud music! Repeat the above while doing a few of these:
- Spin The Bottle - The rules are simple. Just click the link for details if you forgot!
- 5 Minutes In The Closet/7 Minutes In Heaven - Whichever you want to call it, it's a classic game that can lead to some crazy situations! (We always set some limits on what you could do while 'In Heaven.")
- Skinny Dipping - No links needed for this one. Water + Nudity + Booze = FUN! Don't forget the Lifeguard!
- Karaoke - If you've got access to a karaoke machine, get yourself some 80's tunes and load 'em up! Singing ability isn't important; it's how gnarly you get while on the mic! Keep It Awesome!
- Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board - (Note - This is good for a slumber party too!) If you've never tried it or forgot how, just click the link!
- Bloody Mary - Another party game that's been passed down for many years, and freaked more than a few people out!
- Truth Or Dare - A game we played MANY times in the 80's that led to plenty of insanity! Follow through or face the punishment!
- Old Photo Collage - Have everyone bring a picture or two of themselves from the 80's and put them all together on a wall. The more embarrassing, the better!
- The Best, The Embarrassing, The Gnarly - Everybody writes down a memory from all 3 categories (Best = Favorite memory, Embarrassing = Kinda' easy to figure out, Gnarly = Something crazy you've done, a weird experience, etc) on separate pieces of paper. Put them all into a container and mix them up. At a predetermined time, somebody pulls one out and reads it out loud. (It's completely anonymous!)
The Dance!
(Note - This one takes some prep work but it's worth it!)
Find a space that fits your needs. (Flat, enough open area, etc). Get all the strands of lights you can find (think Christmas lights, but the colors are your choice. White/clear is a good choice for this. Use enough to light it up nice!) Get some cheap flooring material (Google it) or use what you've got. Now, string the lights over the area you're using. (You can string them around the area too, or use another light source.) Use a DJ or just a plain old stereo for the music. (Make some mix CD's or have somebody take requests and oversee the tunes.)
A few more suggestions:
- Pick a theme - School dance, dance party, etc.
- Have a dress code
- Plenty of drinks (spiked punch?) and snacks.
- Decorations
House Party!
Clear the furniture, lock up the breakables, set up the DJ table, and take it back to the old school! $5 gets you a cup!
Take It To The Streets!
Grab some cardboard or linoleum (however much you think will work) and a roll of duct tape. Make a mix of some old school breakdance tracks (keep it 80's!). Put some new batteries in your Lasonic boombox (you've got a boombox, right?) and head out! Whether it's just you and your friends out on the driveway or you set up on a sidewalk somewhere, throw down like we did back in the day!
Suggestions:
- Wear old school clothes. Bandannas are a must-have!
- You can always use an MP3 player with some speakers.
Skate & Destroy!
Grab your board and do it old school! Go everywhere your board (or car) will take you and session any spots you find. Hit up old favorites or explore and find new ones. It doesn't matter if you're rad or lame on a board since we ALL sucked the first time we tried to ollie! Get aggro and skate!

- Sport some skate gear from back in the day.
- Bring back some of the lingo we used.
Into The Dungeon!
Grab your favorite RPG and some friends for a marathon gaming session like we used to! Don't forget the caffeine and snacks! (We survived a 3-day weekend playing D&D almost non-stop on Jolt, NoDoz, and pizza rolls.)
Retro In Disguise!
Throw a party where everybody has to come dressed as a celebrity from the 80's. (An actual person, a character, musician, etc.)
Have a contest or two just for fun! Some suggestions:
- Most detailed (Down to the stitching)
- Best team effort (two or more people)
- Most Obscure (those characters/people from the background)
- Complete doppelganger (Almost an exact replica)

Kickin' It 80's 24/7!
Get yourself some vintage clothes, plenty of accessories, and/or a walkman (don't forget the headphones with orange foam!) or a boombox, slap in your favorite tape (or a mixtape), and turn it up! (Duration lasts as long as you want.)

The 80's Album!
Got a bunch of old photos or other stuff you've kept from the 80's laying around you'd rather have in one place but never found the time to organize it all? Well, no time like the past...er...present! Fill up a photo album, plaster stickers all over it, go crazy with some Puffy Paint, whatever you want! You can even invite some friends over and everybody can make an album while strolling down memory lane!
The Almighty Mixtape!
Remember that crush you had back in the day but didn't act on it?
Make a mixtape (or a mix CD, if you wanna be all lame) of songs from back then that stir a memory or two. Write out a letter of funny memories and some of the awkward moments that make you laugh at who you were back then. Include it with the tape but don't get ignorant with it! Keep the "long lost love" sob story stuff out of it. You never know when the opportunity to give it to that person might come up! (Or you can just leave it on their locker between classes.)
